Dear neighbor,
Please give me your help and ideas on the defining challenge in Illinois today – our chronic state budget crisis. On August 19, 2010, State Representative Greg Harris and I will host a State Budget Forum to better clarify the vital issues associated with Illinois’ state finances. This forum is being designed to increase overall awareness of the challenges we face and seek your input on the difficult issues we must solve together. Input and follow-up from this Forum will be used to work toward comprehensive solutions to these challenging times. More information and R.S.V.P. information is below.
Because I am in Chicago over the summer, please feel free to let me know about upcoming events in the district and call my office at 773-769-1717.
My website also has a community calendar available at www.senatorsteans.com or by clicking here. Please refer to this calendar for upcoming community events and be sure to e-mail jen@heathersteans.com with any events you think I should add.
Best,
Heather A. Steans

School Supply Drive
State Senator Heather Steans, State Representative Harry Osterman, Alderman Mary Ann Smith, and St. Ita’s Church are partnering once again to collect school supplies for low-income children in the neighborhood. The third annual “Sponsor-a-student” is a partnership with Care for Real - Edgewater’s food and clothing pantry, and other local non-profits to provide school supplies for children in Rogers Park, Edgewater, and Uptown.
Students need a wide variety of supplies, which differs at each school. Donors will sign up to sponsor a student and will receive the student’s grade, age, gender, and the school supply list for that particular student. The bags, on average cost $75, but less expensive lists are available as well. The drive ends on August 19.
To participate or for more information, e-mail jen@heathersteans.com or call 773-769-1717.
In addition, don’t forget our local teachers! Visit our teacher wish list at http://www.senatorsteans.com/teacherwishlist/ to help teachers start the year with the supplies they need. Dry erase markers, copier paper, pens, and pencils are in high demand at your local school!
