| Springfield Update |
Dear Neighbor,
Today the House of Representatives voted to impeach Governor Blagojevich. The vote was very decisive: 114 (yes) -1 (no) -1 (present). To see the report from the House Impeachment Committee click here.
The Senate Committee on Impeachment Trial Procedures also met today to finalize its report on trial procedures for the full Senate. The new General Assembly is sworn in next Wednesday, and after electing our new Senate President, John Cullerton, our first order of business will be to vote to establish our trial procedures. I anticipate that the impeachment trial will begin the last week in January. The State is facing severe challenges such as a budget deficit this fiscal year of $2.5 billion. Thus while we will proceed deliberately as required for such a serious matter, we will keep the process moving as expeditiously as possible.
Please call my office at 773-769-1717 or email me at hsteans@senatedem.ilga.gov if you have any questions.Best,
Heather A. Steans
